Composer in Residence - Solfa Carlile

Whilst we normally perform music several hundred years old, written by the Masters of the Classical Era, we occasionally present new music inspired by Mozart and Haydn but written by talented young composers - offering their music the same exposure we aim to offer our Orchestral players.  On this page, we are delighted to introduce Solfa Carlile, the Orchestra's Composer in Residence.

Solfa Carlile (b.1985) is an Irish composer, based in London. She was a recipient of the Bill Whelan International Music Bursary in 2004. In 2009 she graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Royal College of Music, London, having studied with Joseph Horovitz and Alison Kay. Her music has been performed by the Ossian Ensemble, Okeanos, Contemporary Consort and Composers Ensemble, UK. Commissions also include an epic work Deirdre and Naoise for the London Irish Symphony Orchestra, and a Flute Concerto The Silkie Wife, for soloist James Strauss. Her work, Abeo for Brass Sextet, was awarded the RCM Concerto Prize in 2008. She is now studying for a Masters in Advanced Composition at the RCM, supported by the Sir Richard Stapley Trust.
