JENNIFER COOMBES VIOLA
Jennifer
Coombes began the viola when she was seven years old, and at thirteen
started Junior Trinity with Professor Devorina Gamalova where she was
lucky to receive a full Government Music and Dance Scholarship for her
last two years. Whilst at Trinity she received numerous prizes
including the Vivien Joseph String Quartet prize three years in a row.
She is currently a third year undergraduate at the Royal College of
Music studying with Professor Andriy Viytovych. She performs recitals
in Surrey and London, and has made concerto appearances with the
Guildford YMCA Orchestra and The Orchestra of Situation Opera. She has
participated in masterclasses with Lawrence Power, Jan Repko, Nicholas
Pendlebury and the Wihan Quartet amongst others.
Jenny is a founder member of the Eilon Quartet which was formed at the
RCM this academic year, and with whom she has several upcoming concerts
and recitals. Her orchestral experiences include playing principal
viola in the RCM's Opera Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta,
the London Irish Symphony Orchestra, Surrey Mahler Orchestra and Surrey
County Youth Orchestra, and this work has taken her to many European
countries and to venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth
Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Rudolfinum Concert Hall, Prague.
For the last two years, Jenny has also performed as a soloist and
chamber musician at the Academia Internacional de Musica in Solsona,
Spain. Upcoming concerts include chamber music performances with the
RCM Martinu series, several solo recitals in Surrey, recitals with the
Eilon Quartet in London and a slot in the RCM Rising Stars chamber
music series at Cadogan Hall.
BERENT KORFKER VIOLIN
Berent Korfker gave his first concert as soloist with orchestra at the age of 13. After winning prizes at the Wieniawski competition (Beethoven Prize) and the Oscar Back violin competition (2nd prize and Contemporary Music Award) he played throughout Europe, in Russia, Japan, the United States and Australia, both as soloist with orchestra and in recitals. He appeared in venues such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Beethoven Saal in Bonn, the Palacio de Festivales in Santander and the Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama and has performed concertos with orchestras like the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Lithuania, the Noord-Holland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, recitals in Chicago and Montpellier were broadcast on live radio and television. In January 2008 Korfker made his London debut playing the Tchaikowski Concerto with the London Irish Symphony Orchestra in Cadogan Hall.
