The first concert in the 2009-2010 Concerto Series kicks off with two reasonably overlooked works. The first of Mozart's violin concerti is a delightful exploration of the composer's own ability on the instrument as, unlike most of his works, the violin works originated in his own performance interests. Between the two violin concerti, new Situation Opera bassoonist Emma Selby presents Mozart's only Bassoon Concerto (of three) which survives to the modern day, and which still forms a staple of the instrument's repertoire but rarely heard in today's concert halls. Joining these two works of Mozart is Bach's enchanting E major concerto, played by Willemijn Steenbakkers.
